Historical Origins
|
The
“Albarello” is a kind of pharmaceutical ceramics
which had a remarkable diffusion and continuousness. It
seems to derive from the Hispano-Moresque ceramics and
also the name from the Arab “Al Baroni” or
“Al Baril”.
In the Italian production it has a successive evolutions
in the shape and in the decoration. The names of the medicinal
herbs were placed on rectangular scroll ornaments in the
centre of the Albarello or transversal, the decoration
was framed with a wreath of leaves and fruit tied with
fluttering ribbons.
